Working from home: 5 ways to maximise productivity

As it stands, around 30 per cent of people in the UK work remotely at least once a week, with around 10 per cent working from home exclusively.

Maybe you’re a freelancer, self-employed, or you have a job that allows you to work flexibly. If you find yourself working at home or remotely regularly, then you might be struggling to keep on top of productivity. And that’s hardly surprising - with so many distractions readily available at home, you’d be forgiven for lacking focus occasionally.

If you’re wondering how to work from home effectively, here are our top tips.

Find yourself a co-working space

Working from the comfort of your sofa isn’t for everyone, so why not explore the idea of finding a nearby dedicated co-working space? If you’re living or staying with ARK, then you’ll find the perfect spot right on your doorstep. Wembley ARK offers a 24/7 co-working space, providing you with everything you need for a day’s work, including internet access and desk monitors. For those wanting a little more privacy, there are also private booths available, plus, if you’re holding a meeting, why not take advantage of the on-site meeting rooms, fully-equipped with all the tech you need to present.

Dress for success, even if you’re not in the office

The first step to your working day (even when you’re working remotely) is having a shower and getting into an outfit that makes you feel energised, comfortable and motivated. We’re not necessarily saying dust off your best suit, but at least make the effort to shower in the morning, we promised you’ll feel refreshed and ready to handle anything your day has to throw at you.

Create a dedicated home office space

If you’re working remotely, it can be really easy to accidentally merge the boundaries of home and work life. This really isn’t healthy and can actually cause long-term damage to your well-being.

To avoid this, transform part of your home into dedicated office space. Even if it’s just a desk and chair, it’s important that you recognise that space is where you work - this will make it easier to switch off at the end of the day (almost like you’re leaving the office).

A top tip from us is to use plants or artwork as room dividers - this way, you’ll be seamlessly creating a separate space for you to work in, and your home will still look pretty.

Take regular breaks

Make sure you’re regularly having time-out from your screen, taking frequent refreshment breaks and always scheduling lunch into your calendar. If you have to set an alarm as a reminder, then do so.

Remember to try and get yourself outside at least once a day. Grabbing half an hour of fresh air will help reduce stress and anxiety while boosting productivity and focus.

Stick to a schedule

Likewise, create a schedule and stick to it. Without colleagues around us or regular supervision, it’s easy to get distracted or lack productivity. At the start of the day, make a realistic ‘to-do list’, that you can work on, to give yourself some sort of structure and guidance.

At Wembley ARK, our co-living space provides you with the perfect space to work, live, connect and socialise. As well as our fully-furnished en-suite studios, ARK members have access to a state-of-the-art co-working space, gym membership and communal living areas - all of which come as part of their package.
